Whether it be elminating debt, maintaining health and fitness goals, or nurturing relationships, most things worth having require sacrifice. Movies and songs are often built around dramatic expressions of love, leaving viewers to ponder if a love so strong exists, and others to reminisce on days past and present filled with the euphoric feeling of loving and being loved.

Some of the most sincere expressions of love lie within an individuals ability and willingness to make sacrifices for no other reason than for the sake of the well being of another. This type of love is action-oriented, moving beyond words into demonstrations of the heart-felt emotion of love. This week I challenge us to move beyond words and focus on demonstrating our love for family, friends, and those closest to us through loving actions. Even the most optimistic person can sometimes find themselves overburdened with the demands and unpredictability of life. The truth of the matter is with each sunrise as we begin a new day even with the best of plans we are unable to predict what a new day will bring. The only true control we have is over our attitudes.

The root of stress usually lies within the worry, frustration, or disappointment that ensues when faced with obstacles. It's easy to say "think positively" or "focus on the positives" until something happens that shakes your world up so badly that it eclipses any attempt to see the brighter side of your circumstances.

I believe it is important to allow ourselves to feel the pain of tough circumstances in order to deal with the reality of the situation. The key is learning how to transition from that place of pain and disappointment into focusing on the positives. When we focus our minds on all that we have to be thankful for, instead of dwelling on circumstances that only God can control, we free ourselves from unnecessary stress and worry.

This week I encourage you to make a list of situations your are able to actively improve and a list of those things that are beyond your power to change. It is these situations that our faith is strengthened as we seek God through prayer and witness the power of his sovereignty. In all things, place your faith in the one who knows your struggles best, and prepare to share your testimony with the world!! Have a great week!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Regardless of how healthy I feel, or how many healthy lifestyle practices I have been diligently adhering to over the course of the year, as I go from the waiting to the examination room, I can't help but to wonder what if? What if this is the time something is wrong?

It is this fear that keeps many away from routine doctor's visits until symptoms begin to manifest making it a necessity to schedule an appointment. Hosea 4:6 states that "people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge." This is true in all areas of life particularly when it comes to health and wellness. Some may say what you don't know won't hurt you, I believe what you know can save you. Regardless of how we may dread those office visits, choosing not to be informed of our medical status only denies us of the opportunity to the early detection of illnesses and treatment options. It also prevents us from having the chance to alter our lifestyles in the event that we are at rist for certain diseases.

This week I encourage you to go ahead and schedule your family for an appointment for a full medical physical to include HIV and STD testing. Knowing your status can save your life. You owe it to your family, friends, and to yourself. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body." - I Corinthians 6:18

The weather's getting cooler... The days are shorter... And suddenly after being single for the past several months, now seems like a great time to find someone to shield you from the coolness of the night as you envision yourself taking long walks in the park with someone special.

Long walks lead to long kisses... Long kisses lead to "let's go back to my place," and before you know it your special "friend" has a toothbrush in your bathroom, and the long walks in the park have been replaced with escapades in the bedroom...

There is truly something special about meeting someone that stimulates your mind, body, and spirit. That someone who inspires you to be your best and causes your dimples to sink in deeper every time you see their face. One of the nicest surprises is discovering that your attraction is not simply physical but rooted in the very presence and conversation generated whenever they are around.

Becoming intimate can hinder the process of getting to know someone because it takes the focus off of learning more about the person and instead shifts the focus to fulfilling lustful desires. The substance of a relationship needed to bring individuals together in lasting marriages must first begin with the foundation of a strong friendship. Far too often we allow our physical desires to cloud our judgment leading us to spend time in relationships that we were never purposed to be in. Then we later wonder why we haven't met "the one" This week I encourage you to focus on friendship. It's time to end the cycle of high divorce rates, serial dating, STDs, unplanned pregnancies. Become dedicated to learning and loving your mates with the love of God. Intimacy may be fun for a night, but a strong friendship can last a lifetime... Have a great week!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Energy drinks, dietary supplements, coffee, sugar, and fast food are just some of the secrets behind how some of us are able to juggle the endless demands of our every day lives. As we struggle to cram more into an already over booked schedule, instead of re prioritizing our calendars, we negotiate our diets. It's no wonder why so many of us are always tired, overweight, and moody. the answers to many of our health concerns lies within our diet.

We tell ourselves, "I'll eat healthier tomorrow," as we pull up to the quickest drive thru window, or "I'll develop a work-out regimen next year," as we slide quarters into the office vending machine. And who needs sleep with all of the energy drinks and energy-boosting dietary supplements on the market? Most of us have routines and styles of eating and cooking that can be traced back to childhood that are being passed down to future generations as we continue the legacy of unhealthy diets. As the saying goes "when we know better, we should do better."

Just as bad-decision making eventually catches up with us, so do bad eating habits. This week I challenge us to eliminate at least one unhealthy dietary habit from our routines. Trade in that soda for a bottle of water, substitute your chocolate fix with some fruit. Pack a lunch instead of dining out for lunch. It's time that we begin to model healthy habits not only to maximize our lives today but the lives of tomorrow. Please check out the below low calorie recipe, "Spicy Shrimp Stew." Have a great week!!!

Spicy Shrimp Stew

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 cup sliced onion
1 cup sliced green bell pepper
3/4 cup chopped celery
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup water
1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 cups cubed, peeled potato
2 cups diced tomato
One 10-ounce package frozen mixed vegetables
1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
3 to 4 cups cooked brown rice

1. Most things that we desire materialistically are only a credit card swipe away from our immediate disposal. For the most part I consider myself to be a conservative well-grounded individual, yet periodically I find myself drawn to the lures of the "gotta have it now" mentality. Many attach their very self-confidence to their ability to acquire superficial possessions. A question to consider is how do we feel about ourselves when we are stripped of all the superficial things that give us place in a materialistic world?

True confidence is the fruit of knowing and embracing who you are in Christ. One of the greatest joys is waking up each morning with peace in knowing that because you are seeking God's will, each moment of your day will be filled with opportunities to fulfill your God-given purpose. Confidence is the ability to embrace everything about the person God created you to be. Regardless of the imperfections the world may see, knowing that you are a work in progress and that through Christ even your flaws can be used for his glory makes every day a more promising. This week begin to walk with confidence! You're God's child! Act like it!!! My relationship would be better if... Or if I were married my life would be better because... Or if my children were older I could... And the list goes on and on. Sometimes the person doing most of the talking may even be you. the reality is, life will never present us with the perfect conditions to begin taking the actions needed in order to fulfill our ambitions. It's up to us to make the best of our blessings and to understand that there's no limit to what God can do.

Proverbs 18:21 states "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." Words hold an extraordinary amount of power. Sometimes our words can talk us right out of a blessing. Words are often the root of many arguments, unforgiveness, self-doubt, discouragement and even have the power to create global conflict. Not only do words often result in conflict but sometimes we can spend so much time engaging in exchanges of thoughts and ideas that very little gets accomplished. This week I encourage us to be people of action versus prolific wordsmiths. Dialogue is a powerful tool, but dialogue in action will continue to change our world. Have a great week!!!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://tsjonesinspires.blogspot.com/2010/10/october-week-3-living-with-expectancy.html' title='October Week 3 - Living With Expectancy - Stop Talking! I am a believer that every individual regardless of age, background, or skill level possesses unique gifts and talents that can pave the road to greatness. The struggle is helping them to see beyond their past or current situation long enough to visualize the possibility of a brighter tomorrow.

This mentality often follows individuals into an adulthood filled with ambitions that remain unfulfilled as a result of years of following negative thought patterns. Proverbs 23:7 states "as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." Too often we compare our lives to that of those around us instead of focusing on achieving our personal best with the resources, gifts, skills, and talents we possess. These comparisons can leave us feeling as if our lives are not measuring up, or that somehow we've missed the mark of success. Our life's journey is not meant to be a mirror reflection of the images of success depicted in the media or society. The beauty of life is that every person was created uniquely and is destined to fulfill a purpose that was divinely designed. Even when it appears that the grass is greener in the lives of others, it is our responsibility to remember that the path that we are on is preparing us for the harvest of tomorrow. This week I encourage you to renew your thinking. Keep looking ahead, your future is waiting for you!!! Have a great week!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Or are your thoughts about your dreams and desires more aligned to the following way of thinking:
You believe it can happen but not for you. You know that all things are possible but not right now. You have witnessed and believe in miracles but your situation is too far out of control, or self-inflicted therefore you are deserving of the negative consequences or discipline you are enduring. Or maybe you feel that because of past mistakes, you don't deserve more.

This month as we enter the last quarter of 2010, I encourage you to let go of those thoughts and actions that are blocking your blessing. Begin to live with expectancy!!! Expect that every blessing every miracle is on the way! Faith grants us the ability to live with expectancy through knowing that we serve a God who forgives and is able to restore all that is broken in our lives. Make a committment to revitalizing your prayer life and pray for God to align your desires with his desires and to purge your heart, mind and spirit of all that is not aligned to his will. When we seek God's will we can live with the expectancy that his will shall come to past, and we can rest assured that we are living with purpose.

A revitalized prayer life restores confidence in the future, grants peace, and provides clarity on the actions needed in order to live an abundant purposeful life. Through prayer we are in fellowship with our Lord and Savior, and we are equipped with the spiritual discernment that enables us to make better decisions and enables us to walk in obedience. Regardless of what your situation looks like, expect the best! Living with expectancy means working now in preparation for what's to come! You don't wait for wealth to learn how to manage money, or wait until you secure a job to gain the requirements. Professional athletes don't wait until the play-offs to prepare for a win. Living with expectancy is a life-style of constant preparation and application. Seek opportunities to apply your knowledge and to sharpen your skills in your areas of interest. Most visions don't come to pass over night, they are the result of small efforts that lead to big results. Pray like you mean it, live like you believe it!!!! Live with expectancy!!! Have a great week!!!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. I really liked the quote but at that time I was too young and lacked the life experiences that now enable me to have a greater appreciation for the significance of those words. In order to see the rainbow, we must not be afraid to endure the rain. Sometimes the events of life can deceive us into believing that our circumstances will not improve and that our God given visions are only distant dreams reserved for the privacy of our imaginations.

One thing I have come to love and respect about tribulation is that if nothing else, it forces us to prioritize our lives. We begin to gain a level of clarity that enables us to focus in on what's working spiritually, emotionally, financially, and relationally, eventually removing ourselves from situations that do not impact our lives positively. This week, no matter what you're going through, choose to remain focused on your vision. Committ to doing a little each day to achieve your goals and your latter is sure to be better than your past! Have a great week!!!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. We demonstrate our faith during those seasons when life presents us with challenges that prove to be a test of our faith and ability to persevere. The reason many of us have fallen short of the victory is the result of our failure to exercise our faith through our difficulties. Instead of pressing forward and remaining faithful to all the many areas of life for which we have to be thankful, we sulk and focus more on disappointments to the point that our energy and faith becomes more depleted with each day. This week, despite the challenges that may test your faith, I challenge us to remain focused on the positives and know that through faith we are able to conquer every challenge that comes our way. There are some things within our lives that must first be broken before we are able to experience healing. Many times the pain of brokenness is the only way life has of getting our attention long enough to inspire us toward making positive, life-long changes.

We often live our lives constantly in search of a non-existant state of utopia only to be disappointed time and time again when the challenges of life begin to test our faith. It is time that we learn how to expect and embrace the adversities of life. Many desire to have the marriages that last sixty years, the booming business, the well-disciplined children, financial security, the power of forgiveness, the love of having a close knit family, and most importantly a higher level of spiritual growth and peace; however, only those who are willing to go through the trials, are able to experience the triumph. At some point we must make up in our minds that we are either going to give up or trust God enough to press our way onward and forward. Giving up should never be an option, there are too many people depending on you, and need to see your faith in action!!!! This week I encouraged you to heal through the pain of your brokenness. Make-up in your mind that your state of brokenness is only temporary and take the necessary steps needed to guide you to a place of healing and restoration. Most of all celebrate the healing that is on the way!!! Have a great week!!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Far too often we are able to imagine ourselves at the finish line before we consider the requirements that must be fulfilled in order to win the race.

A champion does not become a champion based upon natural ability alone. Every champ knows that in order to have a chance of securing future victories, one must say goodbye to their comfort zone. Battles are usually lost because the same techniques that have proven successful in the past are unable to withstand the battles of the future. It is easy for us to find ourselves repeating the same behaviors, yet we declare we are striving to reach new ambitions.

Like the famous quote by Anthony Robbins states, "If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten." This month as we focus on perseverance, I challenge us to be intentional. It's time for our actions to demonstrate that we really believe our dreams can and will come true. Based upon the society we live in today, one could easily be led to believe that joy is experienced only to the extent that our material needs are met. Rarely do we consider the amount of time, and effort that often goes into obtaining and maintaining our superficial desires, not to mention the fact that having "more" does not necessarily guarantee more joy and peace.

I have come to the realization that regardless of where we fall socioeconomically, the amount of material possessions, or our current relationship status, a joyful heart is a grateful heart. If we are able to maintain a spirit of gratefulness throughout the many seasons of life, we will then understand what it means to have true joy. This week I encourage us to count our blessings, and we will discover many reasons to embrace a spirit of gratitude. Have a great week!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Sometimes the lessons that we are in need of are manifested during seasons of what we may perceive as lack. Oftentimes we miss out on the lesson trying to get to the blessing, only to be given the same test again and again, until hopefully we eventually achieve mastery.

I don't know anyone who enjoys the process of taking tests but most will admit to the satisfaction of receiving an "A". This week I encourage you to give thanks for life's lessons. Every lesson learned brings us a step closer to achieving our destinies. As we navigate uncertain territory, and shift through the seasons of life, it is such a blessing to have friends who embrace, respect, and accept us unconditionally. Having at least one friend who is there through your ups and downs is truly a gift. A true friend not only loves unconditionally but holds us accountable for poor decisions, and knows how to offer loving criticism. Time spent with a true friend means having a safe place where we are able to let our guards down. No longer does it matter if we don't say the right things, wear the latest fashion, or have yet to achieve what society defines as success.

This week I encourage you to take some time to let those who are dear to you know how much you appreciate their love and friendship. Rarely does a day go by without hearing messages eluding to evidence that rates of foreclosure, unemployment, crime and divorce are increasing.

In the midst of it all it is important for us to take a moment to shift our focus from the negatives and focus on the positives. Just as we can always find something to complain about, we are able to discover that we have many things to be grateful for.

As we work, pray, and strive to turn the negatives into positives, let's not forget to embrace a spirit of gratitude. This week I encourage you to begin each day by making a list of reasons to be grateful. You may be surprised to find that despite what the media, or world around you proclaims, you are blessed beyond measure. Triggers are those people, environments, foods, words, or moods that hinder our focus. If your weakness is overspending, your trigger may be going to shopping centers with the intent to browse, yet somehow you always end up leaving with a purchase.

Maybe your busy schedule allows very little time for cooking, making it more convenient to opt for fast food, despite your comittment to eat healthier. In this instance, limited time is the trigger.

Then there's usually that one co-worker, friend, or family member who knows just the right words to say to ignite your emotions. Though you've promised yourself you would maintain emotional control at all times, once again you find yourself having an emotional outburst.

This week, I encourage you to recognize your weaknesses and triggers. Make a concious decision not to succumb to your personal weaknesses but instead replace them with positive alternatives. Or imagine how different our lives would be if our emotions guided our daily interactions? Would we be rude to co-workers, over-eat, break our budgets, would we show up for work at all?

In order to acheive progress, we must be true to the sacrifice and commitment needed in order to attain our goals. With every lapse of judgement or discipline whether it be in our choice of relationships, finances, career, or health, we are potentially limiting our progress. This week I encourage us to monitor our decision making, to ensure that we are making sound decisions instead of decisions based solely on emotion. Have a great week-end!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. It's amazing how we may have all of our I's dotted, and our T's crossed with the exception of that one area that always seems to fall through the cracks. Maybe everyday as you complete the items included in your destiny regimen, you notice that repeatedly exercising is the one item that goes un-checked. Maybe it's time spent working toward your purpose, or failure to keep the budget that you vowed to maintain. Regardless of which area you discover is constantly being neglected, it is important to identify the area in need of special targeting.

Once the neglected area is identified, it may be necessary to move this task to the top of your "To Do" list to ensure it is completed, or even set a reminder on your phone to alert you when the time arrives specifically set aside for accomplishing this task. Oftentimes, the things we desire to do the least are completed last or not at all. This week as we continue our focus on radical discipline, I encourage you to focus on your target, aim, and make it your personal goal to hit the bulleye everyday. Have a great week!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. We have reached the halfway mark of 2010!! The finish line is just ahead as we continue to strive to win in 2010!

This month we will be focusing on discipline. We have fitness regimens, diet regimens, and even spiritual regimens. This week it's time we developed our destiny regimen! Most people whether they are celebrities, athletes, entrepreneuers, or any person who has successfully achieved their goals will tell you that their success was not based on talent alone, but the key to their success resides in their level of discipline.

In order to have a radical life transformation, we must implement a plan of radical discipline. All too often we get too comfortable allowing small tasks to remain undone; always depending on tomorrow, next week, next month, even next year to accomplish our goals.

This month I encourage you to committ to developing a lifestyle of radical discipline. Procrastination, stagnation, and contemplation have no place in your destiny! This week's focus is designing your destiny regimen. Regardless of what has taken place over the course of the past six months, many of us can honestly say that if nothing else, we are able to identify the routines that are working and those that are in need of modification. A destiny regimen consists of identifying the routines and actions that have proven to result in progress and consistantly following these actions daily. Make a commitment to doing these tasks as you continue the process of discovering other elements to add to your destiny regimen. Below I have listed the 5 components of my Destiny Regimen, and I pray that by the end of this week you too will have a destiny regimen that brings you a step closer to fulfilling your destiny! Have a great week!

1. Seeking God's purpose daily.
2. Establishing an atmosphere of peace.
3. Spending time with family and friends doing things that bring you joy.
4. Doing one thing each day toward reaching your goals.
5. Developing a fit and healthy lifestyle.

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Has anyone ever hurt you so badly that you honestly didn't know if it was possible to forgive them? Often times even as Christians our hearts are filled with bitterness as a result of wrongs that my have transpired many years ago. We desire to forgive, yet the pain makes it difficult to begin the process. The enemy does not want us to forgive. He'd rather see families, communities, and the world fall apart with hatred.

We must understand that our lives are not our own. We are called to fulfill a purpose. When we choose not to forgive, we are blocking opportunities to witness, for sometimes it is the people who have hurt us that need our witness the most. True forgiveness starts with redirecting our hurt toward the sin and not the person. We are all imperfect thanks to sin, but we are created in the image of Christ, making us all worthy of forgiveness and love. Trust that God will correct the sin and focus on loving the person. Have a great week!!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Unfortunately, oftentimes these incidents of violence are taking place amongst family members, and are the result of uncontrolled emotions. When was the last time you allowed your emotions to control your decision-making?

Many families, lives, relationships and careers could be saved if more attention was given to controlling our emotions. Whether it's anger, fear, jealousy, doubt, or depression, our state of mind can lead to making decisions that not only affect our lives but those around us.

Patterns of domestic violence, and other crimes continue to exist within families generation after generation because no one has taken a stance to end the cycle before it is inherited by the next generation. This week I challenge us to monitor our thoughts and emotions, and work to gain control over emotions that may be standing in the way of our destinies and our legacy. Have a great week!

Tips For Over-Coming Self-Defeating Emotions

1. During moments of anger, think for at least ten seconds before responding.

2. Remove yourself from situations that may cause you to react in a violent or inappropriate manner.

3. Focus on the positives of the situation you are addressing.

4. Participate in activites or develop outlets for releasing your emotion or those that bring you peace such as listening to music, exercising, cooking, prayer/meditation.

5. Identify an accountability partner, someone who will be available for you to talk to during times when your emotions become difficult to manage.

6. Consider the consequences of reacting inappropriately. The consequences of reactions driven by emotion are not worth the long term effects.

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Even those who have experienced their share of heartache maintain hope of someday meeting the person they will share their life with.

Oftentimes we habitually are attracted to potential mates who have common characteristics, and/or those similar to qualities possessed by members of our families. Whether positive or negative these traits are often the secret of why some relationships succeed while others fail. Take a moment to consider your relationship patterns. This week I encourage you to determine which traits are desirable in a mate and recognize those that repetively appear within our relationships but always lead to a downward spiral. Many of us are creatures of habit, often choosing that which is familiar over that which may be healthier. If you desire to have a lasting relationship there is no better time than the present to begin making better relationship choices. Matthew 7:19

Stonghold Definition: A place dominated by a particular group or marked by a particular characteristic, a strongly fortified defensive structure.

Greek Definition: Fortress

Which areas of your life need to be stripped away and cast into a fire? Maybe it's a negative, self-defeating attitude, dysfunctional value system, poor financial management, lack of health conciousness, destructive relationship patterns, instability, a nonexistent, or neglected spiritual life, greed, a spirit of procrastination, a heart of unforgiveness, an unteachable spirit, and the list may go on and on.

This month as we enter the sixth month of 2010 we are going to tackle the root of many of the problems some of us are struggling to overcome. In some cases it may seem as if you have tried everything under the sun to correct dysfunctional behaviors, yet the same patterns continue to persist within your life. Often times the battles we are fighting are wars that have been waging for years within our families. Poverty, infidelity, violence, addictions, and other strongholds that can be identified within our lives and those around us do not suddenly manifest. In some cases there was a pre-established pattern in place that we inherited by our birthrights. This pattern tends to make us more vulnerable to ascribing to certain lifestyle patterns as a result of this predisposition.

It is our responsibility to examine our family histories and determine how we will increase the positive traits genetically acquired and decrease and/or destroy the presence of the negative influences that have been passed down from generation to generation.

This week I encourage you to identify the root of your current struggles and determine if it is indeed a generational stronghold that exists within your family in order to pave a smoother path for the generations to come.

Tips For Tackling Generational Stongholds:

1. Identify your current struggles, assess whether the root of your obstacles lies within mindsets, values, or habits acquired through your blood line.

2. Address concerns with family members to determine a course of action for breaking identified strongholds.

3. Create a plan of action for destroying the existing stronghold.

4. Monitor your progress daily. Strongholds are not easily broken, a conscious effort must be made daily to successfully conquer these destructive patterns.

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. As we conclude the month of May, I would like to encourage you to devote the remaining days of this month to reflect on the direction needed in order to add value to the remaining months of a rapidly moving 2010. Hopefully by now, you have noticed some positive changes taking place within your life, or have recognized areas in need of improvement. We can identify flaws all day long, the key is putting forth the action needed to make a lasting, positive difference. The labor is often tedious, and grueling once we make a committment to transforming our lives, but the results are priceless! Don't waste another moment being overwhelmed by the task that lies before you, get moving!! Embrace life, maximize opportunities for growth, and continue to live on purpose and with purpose! So much time is invested in trying to keep it together that we rarely make time to recover when our worlds begin to fall apart. It is important for us to take a moment to identify the lessons that often come along with our downfalls as well as moments of victory. Often times there are truths that begin to unfold through our shortcomings and success that can serve as catalysts in preparing us for the next phase of our lives.

When we miss life's teachable moments, we can sometimes find ourselves stagnant, and circling the same mountain of disappointment time and time again. This week I challenge us to set aside some time to take a microscopic look at ourselves and the lives we are living. Below are some questions to consider as we search and examine our lives and strive to live life to the fullest!

1. Are there negative patterns within my life that need to be addressed?

2. During moments of success, which actions were the most pivotal to my ability to reach my goal?

3. How have I demonstrated growth spiritually, personally, financially, and relationally within the past five years?

4. Who am I allowing to have influence on my chosen decisions and goals?

5. How has my passion and purpose for life evolved over the years?

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we maintained this same enthusiasm for learning and sharing throughout the course of our lives? The beauty of learning lies within our ability to grow and plant seeds of knowledge within the lives of others. One of the most powerful ways we can add value to the life of another indiviudal is through equipping them with the knowledge needed to meet the demands of life, and to carry out their life purpose, as well as being receptive to the knowledge they desire to pour within us.

We often miss out on opportunities for learning through our failure to maintain a teachable spirit. Often times after reaching a certain level of achievement or status many individuals begin to view themselves as masters of their arenas, to the point that they are unable to appreciate and absorb new sources of wisdom and knowledge as it is presented. I think we can all benefit by taking Denis Waitley's advice to "Never become so much of an expert that you stop gaining expertise. View life as a continuous learning experience." This week I challenge you to learn something new, and remember to share!!! Have a great week! :)

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Having a heart for service is our ability to give of ourselves for the benefit of another person. We live in a world filled with opportunities to serve and individuals in need of service. Even as we examine our own lives many of us can appreciate how day to day living is enhanced through our connections with family, friends and associates who demonstrate their love for us through acts of service.

Service can range from providing shelter, food, and clothing to those in need, to providing a listening ear. Acts of service can be witnessed everyday, from the simple gesture of having guests over for dinner, agreeing to serve as the driver for a company carpool, or babysitting for a friend. For some, service can be as simple as taking the time to smile and offer a word of encouragement.

This week, I encourage us to find ways to add value to the lives of others. As we celebrate Mother’s Day, let’s make a special effort to honor the phenomenal women who have spent their lives sharing their words of wisdom, support, kindness, generosity, and most of all love. Proverbs 13:20 clearly states that "He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed." This verse may sound a bit harsh but it holds so much truth. It's amazing how often we enter romantic relationships, and begin new friendships without considering the affect that our individual values will have on the quality of the connection that is made.

Even as we pour into the lives of others, we must remember that everyone was not designed with the purpose of serving in role of becoming our future spouse, business partner, or confidant. In order to advance society it is imperative that we ultimately seek to use our gifts and talents to serve and assist those that cross our paths on their journey of purpose. In addition, we should also possess teachable spirits that enable us to learn and grow through the wisdom of others who desire to pour into our lives. Every living, breathing person holds value. Though we may find ourselves at very unique phases of life, we must be open to providing and receiving the wisdom that God lavishes through the lives of his people.

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Most of life is spent in preparation. Beginning as children we are enrolled in school, equipped with daily routiines, and skills all for the purpose of preparing us to become self-sufficient individuals. As adults we continue to train and prepare to function in roles within our careers, and acquire additional skills as we pursue the various visions that have been placed within us. It's amazing how we fail to devote preparation time to other areas of our lives that we value and wonder why the results are not always favorable. If you are single, when was the last time you attended a conference, event, or read a book for the purpose of gaining a greater understanding about relationships? I wonder how many married couples spend time preparing for the future success of their relationship through nourshing their relationships by taking part in couples retreats, and spending time learning how to enrich their lives as a couple?

The culture of our world is constantly changing as a result of the impact of social media, and technology as a whole. The way our youth communicate is forever transforming, but how often do parents invest time in discovering the outlets their childeren are using as a means of expression?

A true test of faith is the ability to believe that we are able to possess all that we desire and to demonstrate this belief through our works. If you truly believe that you will someday receive the desires of your heart, it is time to enter into a season of preparation in order to embrace the blessings that our faith is sure to manifest.

"Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead" - James 2:17

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Fear of what others will think, the uncertainty of the outcome, fear of failure, and simply fear of exploring an area that is unfamiliar. As a result, either we decide to retreat before we allow ourselves the opportunity to explore our ambitions, or we make up our minds that it is better to try and fail than to spend the rest of our lives wondering what if?

Fear is a trick that the enemy uses to fill our minds with negative thoughts that cause us to become paralyzed, and as a result many talents and gifts never flourish. I truly believe that understanding our God given purpose is the key to overcoming fear. Once we are in tune with the direction God is guiding us, the thoughts of others, limitations, and fear of failure become superceded by our faith that where God is taking us is better than where we are and where we've been. It is this faith that will enable us to overcome the obstacles and negativity that we experience along the way. We must remember that each of us possess ideas, knowledge, and a unique purpose that is needed in order to fulfill God's will. This week I challenge us to begin taking steps to overcome fear. "For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7

Steps For Overcoming Fear

1. Acknowledge the source of your fears

2. Create a plan of action for addressing these fears.

3. Accept challenges as a natural part of fulfilling your purpose.

4. Study, research, and properly prepare for a positive outcome.

5. Remain in a state of constant prayer, and seek spiritual guidance
throughout your journey.

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. The word of God provides us with the wisdom needed to live a life that glorifies God, and provides us with instruction for overcoming tribulation. The truth is adversity is a part of life, and in order to live a life of purpose we must prepare and equip ourselves mentally and physically in order to overcome the trials that are sure to come our way. Adversity is a wonderful teacher that can allow us an opportunity to learn from mistakes thus eventually shaping us into stronger, more effective individuals. We must develop the type of faith that sees beyond obstacles, and press forward until the victory is received. Along our journey we must stay in tune with God's plan and purpose to ensure that the adversity we're facing is not the result of operating outside of God's will. We can have confidence and faith that we are sure to receive the victory if our endurance is for the glory of God. Make sure you're fighting for the winning team!

Steps For Conquering Adversity

Step 1: Recognize that God has a unique plan for your life.

Step 2: Seek God's plan for your life through prayer.

Step 3: Obediently adhere to God's guidance and direction.

Step 4: Be flexible, and open to making modifications during your journey as they are divinely ordained.

Step 5: Remember there's nothing too hard for God, if he brings you to it, he will bring you through it!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Let's take a moment to be honest with with ourselves, if every individual that we encountered daily was able to take a peek into our thoughts, what would they discover? Would they be greeted by a multitude of negative thoughts, self-doubt, and fear? Or would they find our minds overflowing with positivity, confidence, and an overall spirit of victory? Though fortunately, those around us are unable to discern all of the intricate details of our thoughts, just as the scripture states, our internal thoughts of ourselves usually corresponds with the choices we make, our attitudes, and our overall approach to life.

Many of us spend an abundant amount of time attending worship services, praying, and studying the word of God, but how many of us are truly living a life of faith? If we truly believed God to be who he says he is, would we waste a moment allowing spirits of defeat, doubt, and fear stand between us and our destiny? This month I challenge us to focus on living a life of faith. One of the most importent tenets of faith is putting forth works or actions that demonstrate our beliefs. This month in honor of living a life of faith I challenge us to commit to having 30 days of positivity during which time we will eliminate negativity within our thoughts and speech, procrastination, and fear. Let's step out and do at least one thing that fear has deterred us from completing, that has the potential to propel our purpose!!! Have a great week!!

Tips For Living A Life Of Faith

1. Seek God's guidance and direction through his word and prayer

2. Eliminate negativity within speech and thought

3. A quarter of the year has neared completion, which makes the coming days a great time to re-assess, re-evaluate, and re-vamp our goals for 2010. I challenge us to dedicate the remaining days of March in prayerful reflection upon the progress made thus far, areas in need of improvement, and the development of a plan of action for transitioning into the month of April. This journey of living a life of purpose is not always clear cut and easily navigated. It requires discipline, determination, and most of all faith. It is for this reason that I am making the focus for April, Living A Life Of Faith. This statement often plays in my mind as I find myself moving from day to day and from task to task so quickly that by the end of the week my free time is generally spent in a state of rest in order to regain enough energy to begin the cycle all over again. Sometimes we remain in "dress rehearsal" mode instead of allowing ourselves to enjoy the fruits of our labor. It is important that we take the time to ask some serious questions and consider whether some of our daily tasks need to be trimmed. Are the degrees, careers, and lifestyles we're working so hard to achieve and maintain truly what we have been called to accomplish, or are we simply trying to compete with others, maintain an image that is not who our hearts truly desire to represent, or fulfilling the expectations assigned to us by others? How would we live our lives if we lived freely according to God's purpose without having concern for the scruntiny of those around us? How much more enjoyable would our lives be if we made more time to enjoy life versus living as if our worlds would collapse if we stepped away for even a moment to exhale?

Living a life of purpose has proven to be a process of examining and re-examining the decisions, goals, and routines that are manifested within my life and seeking God for assurance and guidance that they line up with his plan. Doing so often leads to the exclusion of doing those things that are not only purposeful but are also enjoyable. Lucky for me, for the most part my path of purpose has been quite enjoyable while allowing me to fulfill the vision God has given me all at the same time. There are days; however, when it's nice to just live without having a constant mental task list to follow, or to just enjoy doing some things that may not necessarily have anything to do with my purpose but just make life more enjoyable. This spring I'm looking forward to planting a flower garden, doing some decorating, frequenting some spoken-word venues, visiting some amusement parks, catching a few plays, learning some new recipes, doing more traveling, and spending more quality time with family and friends, and maybe even trying something new like white water rafting. These are just a few pleasures that bring me so much joy, but in the midst of living my life on purpose and with purpose I seldom make time to indulge in the things that I enjoy doing the most.

One of the most important lessons that I've learned this year is that I am on a lifelong journey, and just like a theater production the show will continue after the intermission. This week I encourage you to incorporate your own personal intermission and treat yourself to at least one thing that brings you joy.

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. It's amazing how we sometimes live as if our very lives depend on our ability to "stay connected". I understand that in many cases the success of businesses, careers and livelihoods are dependent upon not missing an important message, call, and social networking has become instrumental to the success of many ventures. How often have you been to the movie theater, a concert, or professional ball game and noticed someone so consumed with texting or e-mailing that it seemed nearly impossible for them to enjoy the excitement taking place right in front of them? As a teacher, to add to the challenges I experience with educating youth with already short attention spans, I find myself competing with electronic devices hidden under sweaters and desks.

I remember what life was like prior to the emergence of cellular devices, computers, and social networking. It was during this time that I developed my love for reading and journaling. The largest distraction to be reckoned with during these years was the presence of cable television. Today, I'm sure that even the thought of going a few hours without the rings, beeps, and buzzes that keep us connected to the world seems nearly unbearable for many. I can't help but to wonder how much more productive, peaceful, and relaxed we would be if we dedicated just a few hours to silence and solitude.

Maybe your life revolves around meeting the demands and needs of others to the point that you can't remember the last time you had a moment to take care of your own personal needs and desires. This week I challenge you to dedicate some time each day to having a period of solitude. Schedule some time to break free from the bondage of ringing phones, television, logging onto the internet, and replace these habits with a period of reflection and relaxation. If we're constantly being bombarded with the ways of the world, how can we truly hear from God? How can we truly recognize his purpose if we do not purposefully make time to listen, reflect, and respond? If you feel guilty or selfish for scheduling time for yourself, meditate on the following scripture and remember that the world will continue to turn whether you're in the driver's seat or embracing a moment just to watch the flowers blowing in the wind.

"When he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone." The reality is that there is a limit to the number of commitments we are able to manage before evidence of neglect begin to appear within areas of our lives that are not receiving the necessary attention.

Day to day many of us strive to be everything to everybody without considering if we're truly able to shuffle additional responsibilities and requests into our already full lives. The term being a "people pleaser" is often used to describe the personality types that find it difficult to say NO, when being presented with demands that stretch them beyond their limitations. There have been times when I have been guilty of being a people pleaser, simply because just as the term suggests, I wanted everyone to be pleased. My love for helping and supporting others often left very little time to spend with God or for myself, often leaving me feeling very exhausted. I am so thankful for the light bulb moment when I discovered that there's only one of me. One person cannot be everywhere, with everybody, all of the time, and live a God-centered life of purpose. Even today I have to remind myself of this each time I am tempted to overcommit myself to people and causes that are in need. I strongly believe in living a life of purpose and supporting others in fulfillinig their purpose; however, I am convinced that it can be done with balance.

This week I encourage you to empower yourself to say NO, when asked to take on tasks that will leave you unbalanced, overextended, and depleted of energy. What good is taking on additional committments if you will only later find yourself bitter, resentful, and eventually stepping down from a new responsiblity that was never purposed for you to take on? The truth is, no matter how hard we try to mold our lifestyles into that of a superhero, there's only one God, and even he rested on the seventh day!

Tips For Identifying When It's Time To Say NO!

1. Seek spiritual guidance before taking on new responsiblities

2. Meditate on past experiences, determine how much you are able to balance before evidence of burn-out begin to surface.

3. Calculate how much time remains after your daily non-negotiables are fulfilled.

4. Determine if the task you are considering holds meaning, and adds value to the lives of others.

5. Prepare yourself for the disappointment others will express when you are unable to fulfill their requests.

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. In the midst of striving to win in 2010 I've discovered that I am making positive progress in some areas while very little attention is being given to others. Life can sometimes feel like a see-saw, we often find ourselves experiencing success and acheiving goals yet the downside to our success is that often times our families, relationships, peace, health and overall well-being suffer as a result. As I was pondering whether the sacrifices I have been making for the sake of fulfilling personal goals were worth the late nights, days of fatigue, disconnectedness I often feel from family, friends, and the world, the answer was an absolute no. Yes, there are times when our time may be limited and we may not always have the freedom to spend the time with people and enjoying the activities that make life pleasurable as often as we would like, but I truly believe that with more focus given to balance, we can still live lives that are more well-rounded.

Periodically I find myself going through stages of being either extremely focused on fulfilling my life purpose, or either unable to focus on anything beyond relaxation and having fun. In the midst of living with purpose I often find myself isolated, to the point of nearly disconnecting myself from the very people who love and support me in all that I do. Or finding myself too fatigued to take the necessary steps needed in order to fulfill my goals, eventually resulting in having to devote a few days to catching up on rest, or recovering from illness created by lack or rest or stress. Then on the other hand when I become too relaxed, very little gets accomplished, and I find myself wondering where the days have gone. These experiences have taught me that too much of anything can lead to negative results, once again confirming the importance of balance.

In an effort to live a more balanced life, this week's focus will be dedicated to identifying daily non-negotiables. We must identify which tasks, and responsibilities must be adhered to daily in order to maintain lives of peace and balance. There are certain things that must be done daily in order to maintain our relationships, health, careers, finances, and the overall business of orchestrating our lives. Once these non-negotiables are identified we can then decide how the remaining time will be utilized. This may mean less time for doing the things that our hearts yearn to do 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, but in return we are actually achieving the type of balance that will sustain us and provide the support and structure needed as we pursue our purpose and passion.

Steps For Identifying Non-Negotiables

Step 1: Plan how you would like to began each day
(Meditation, Prayer, Breakfast, Music, Journaling, exerising ect)

Step 2: Identify the tasks that must be accomplished daily in
order to maintain peace and order
(arriving to work on-time, cooking, time spent with family/friends, managing finances
cleaning/organizing, time devoted to fulfilling personal goals ect.)

Step 3: Schedule time for fulfilling the identified non-negotiables.

Step 4: Determine a daily cut-off time, tasks that are not completed by this time, if possible should be scheduled for another day.

Step 5: Develop an end of day, nightly wind-down ritual.

There's a popular quote by John Lennon that says "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans," which lets us know that even in the midst of a perfect plan life happens! Yes, some days we may have to work a little later, yes, there will be days when we feel a little out of balance, but by putting our plan into practice we can reduce our lack of balance and develop routines and lifestyles that with time become more statisfying and fulfilling.

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. How often do we find ourselves putting our guard up when meeting new people as a result of the hurt we've experienced through past friendships, romantic relationships, and even pain inflicted by a family member? Harboring this type of unforgiveness limits our opportunities to experience the beauty of building potentially long-lasting and purposeful relationships. A heart of unforgiveness not only stunts the growth of relationships but the stress of harboring resentment can also affect our health and overall out look on life.

Stress has been identified as the source of many illnesses to include some forms of cancer, heart attacks, high blood pressure, mental disorders, and Rheumatoid arthritis to name a few. Often times the easier option is to block negative events and disappointments from our minds, or dissassociate ourselves from the people who have hurt us. Regardless of how many relationships we end or painful memories we suppress, the pain still remains. Through developing a heart of forgiveness, many relationships can be restored, and even made stronger through the lessons learned during the process of forgiving. Though in many cases the severity of trauma we have experienced may make it difficult for us to even consider forgiving, we must remember that in order to be forgiven, one must also forgive.

"But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses." Mark 11:26

Suggestions For Developing A Heart Of Forgiveness

1. Acknowledge the source of unforgiveness or deed for which you are in need of forgiveness.

2. Pray and seek counsel or spiritual guidance as to how to begin the forgiveness process.

3. Address the problem by writing a letter or arranging a time for meeting with the person or persons with whom you have a need to forgive or are in need of being forgiven.

4. Be patient with yourself

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. The truth of the matter is that regardless of how many things are left undone, we tend to make time to do what we want to do. Notice that I didn't say that we make time for the people that matter to us most, or the causes that are closest to our heart, nor did I refer to time devoted to fulfilling our life purpose. Unfortunately sometimes the people who we love the most are likely to take a back seat as we pursue our passions and strive to live with purpose. Then there are some days when even the passion we have for living a life of purpose becomes stagnant as we become immersed with the demands of day-to-day life.

When I examine my day-to-day routine, there are a few things that I know that no matter how busy my schedule becomes I am sure to take time to do. Whether it's eating, watching Oprah, reading, listening to music, or chatting with a special friend, there are some things that bring us so much peace and joy that we wouldn't think to go a day without making sure they were done. These are called the things that we naturally want to do, and sometimes in the process of doing what we want to do we fail to do what is needed in order to maintain positive relationships. It's a blessing when our wants and needs align so that as we fulfill our wants our needs are being met simultaneously; however, there are times when we must make a committment to stretch ourselves beyond our comfort zones and do a little something each day to demonstrate our love for our family and friends.

I encourage us to put aside some time each day this week to do something to nurture our relationships. That includes our relationships with ourselves. Sometimes we become so busy that even our needs are placed on the back burner. It's easy to do what we want, but love requires unselfishly giving, and through giving needs are fulfilled. Have a Happy Valentine's Day!!! :)

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Sounds nice, but the truth is words do hurt. I'm sure that many of us can think back to childhood memories of being teased and taunted and how the negativity of the words used left us with feelings of inadequacies. The reality is that words are powerful. They can either be used to empower or serve as the source of a break-down in one's self-esteem. This week as we continue to focus on the meaning of love, we must be mindful of the words we use when communicating with others. James 1:19 encourages us to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Sometimes the best decision we can make when communicating is practicing our right to remain silent. Silence can result in enhanced listening, time to reflect on the dialogue taking place, and gives us power over our emotionally-driven responses. This week before releasing words into the atmosphere that cannot be taken back, take a moment to reflect, and rethink before responding.

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. For many February is the month of hearts, flowers, candy, and most of all LOVE!!! We have cleared out the clutter, and established our foundation for success! As we continue our twelve month journey of self-discovery and personal development, this month will be dedicated to understanding the meaning of love as it relates to our relationship with others as well as ourselves. When considering the meaning of love, I am consumed with thoughts of God's unconditional love. His grace, mercy, and faithfulness should be our model for loving ourselves and those around us. Often times we enter relationships hoping to fill pieces that are missing within ourselves, only to find that our significant others are unable to fulfill our areas of emptiness, which often leads to feelings of resentment. It's amazing the demands we place upon others to do for us what we have been unsuccessful at doing for ourselves. We desire to be loved unconditionally but we have yet to forgive ourselves for past mistakes, we often settle for mediocrity instead of answering the call that has been purposely placed upon our lives, and we allow the world's negativity to destroy our peace. With so much unforgiveness and lack of peace within ourselves, how is it possible for us to truly love others? As the cliche goes, hurt people, hurt others, and I feel that healed people are able to support others in healing. Let's begin the month of February by exploring the meaning of self-love and spend each day doing something to demonstrate love for ourselves.

What Is Self-Love?

1. Reverance For Your Individuality

- Embrace your uniqueness, you were created with a God-given purpose.
- Identifying and pursuing our life purpose enables us to make a difference in the world through sharing our individual gifts and talents.

2. Recognize Your Value

- Live a life that values who you are as person. Eliminate habits that are toxic to your mind, body, and spirit.

3. Respect Yourself

- Self-Respect is the ability to live our lives in a way that is pleasing and honorable to God without compromise. We can create our own values, and measures of self-respect, but God's standard for living is infallible. The more our lives align with the word of God the more we are able to love ourselves and the world around us.

What will you do to Reverance your individuality, Recognize your value, and show Respect for yourself this week?

Suggestions:

- Spend this week treating yourself the way you expect to be treated by others. Treat yourself with patience, kindness, and forgiveness. Listen to your inner voice of reason in regards to how to proceed in making important decisions.

- Make a list of your personality attributes that you like or dislike. Develop a plan for how to maximize the positives and decrease the negatives.

- Do something each day this week that you enjoy doing with or without another person present. Create an additional list of things you have never tried but feel you may find enjoyable. Tentatively schedule times to pursue these interests throughout the year.

- Write down a list of areas where you are struggling with self-forgiveness.

- Pray for a renewed heart and spirit.

*Remember...The goal of self-discovery and personal development is to become our best selves! Don't forget to continue the positive habits that were developed in January and keep our lives clutter-free as we focus on exploring the meaning of love.*

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. This week's focus is performing a Month-End inspection. Just shy of a month ago, we decided that we were going to Win in 2010!!!! Now that the first month of the year is drawing to a close it's time to take out the magnifying glass and inspect our progress. Upon completing this month-end inspection, let's utilize this final week to clear out the last remnants of clutter, and tie up the final loose ends in prepartion for month two of our tweleve month focus on self-discovery and personal development. Below I have provided a checklist that can serve as a resource for performing this month-end assessment.

January Month-End Inspection

- Has all clutter within relationships, finances, home, and office been addressed and removed?

- Have you removed your mask before God and sought his guidance for dealing with areas of struggle?

- If your plan is starting a new business, bringing in additional income, becoming a homeowner or working toward accomplishing educational goals, ect., have you written out a clear plan of action for reaching your desired goals?

- Are you setting time aside time each day to mediatate and reflect on your daily goals?

- Have you tried journaling as a tool for gaining clarification, direction, and as a way to monitor progress?

- Do you know the total dollar amount of your debt, and the amount needed monthly to cover living expenses?

- Have you established a monthly budget?

- What steps have you made toward achieving fitness and health goals?

Personal Month-End Reflection

As I cleared out the clutter, and removed my mask before God, I discovered that winning in 2010 was going to be more of a challenge than I imagined! Years of bad habits do not develop overnight so we certainly cannot expect them to disappear within a few weeks. Creating the lives we desire requires a daily committment to doing a little each day toward restructuring our lives and developing better habits. Even if you fell short of your goals this month, it's not too late! Hopefully if nothing else, you will end this month with greater awareness of changes that need to be made, a greater sense of direction, and a plan of action. Use this final week of January to revamp, regroup, and refocus your attention on the goals that were established during the first few days of this month. Congratulations on victories large and small!!!! Give yourselves credit for any steps that you have taken in the direction of self-discovery and personal developement! I'm sure that many of you have successfully established your foundation of success and are preparing to implement your battle plan for winning in 2010!!! Have a wonderful week!!! See you in February!!!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. I would almost rather do anything than to sort through the assortment of utility, car, educational, and other expenses that demand my attention. The reason that this task proves to be challenging is because often times from month to month I find myself trying to figure out how my means will meet the needs. One thing that I have learned over the years is that you can run, but you can't hide from financial responsibility. Avoidance or failure to take a detailed assessment of one's financial status can only create financial ruin.

When we look at our bank accounts and the numbers are out of balance with what is required to cover our monthly expenses, the first step is always recognizing the problem. The ability to recognize the problem empowers us to begin seeking solutions. As a college freshman I was enticed by the numerous credit card offers that were readily accessible and displayed just outside of our campus student center. I joined the multitude of students who lined up to apply for our first credit cards with visions of shopping, and only having to make $15 monthly payments, and receiving the t-shirt and water bottle that were given in exchange for our committment.

Two years ago, I developed the desire to become a homeowner. It was at this time that the decision I had made to apply for various charge accounts ten years prior as a college freshman began to haunt me. Over the years I had experienced financial hardships that had caused my credit card balances to increase substantially, and the $15 minimum monthly payments that were once so attractive, had increased to amounts that were often times outside of my monthly budget. As a result, late fees, and delinquencies caused my credit rating to plummet, making Real Estate Agents turn me away within five minutes of assessing my credit report.

Saddened by the unfavorable response I received, I began to wonder if I would ever be able to pay down enough debt, or achieve a credit score that would make me worthy of achieving my dream of homeownership. One day I came home to a notice left in my apartment door from a real estate agent with information on it about a homeownership program called NACA. I called the number provided and the agent offered to sign me up for a workshop. Unsure if it was worth investing the time to attend, I politely thanked the agent and told him I would sign up at a later date.

Recognizing the need to get my finances in order, a few weeks later I signed up for a financial seminar hosted by my church. The Real Estate Agent facilitating the seminar also mentioned the NACA program, and after hearing the program referenced once again I decided that maybe I should register for a workshop afterall. The financial seminar provided by my church was held in January of 2008, I went to the NACA workshop that February where I was able to schedule an appointment to meet with a NACA counselor. I began meeting with my NACA counselor monthly beginning in March of 2008. During this time my credit report was reviewed, and I received assistance with identifying the necessary steps I needed to take in order to become a homeowner. On November 26, 2008, the day before Thanksgiving, I closed on my first home. Needless to say, on Thanksgiving day my heart was overflowing with thankfulness! I promised God a long time ago that on this journey of life I would use the lessons and blessings he's provided to encourage anyone who may cross my path. Below I have listed tips, suggestions, and links to online resources to aide all who may be interested with reaching their financial goals. I am now beginning a journey toward becoming debt-free and I would like to invite anyone who desires to experience the joys of financial freedom to join me.

Step 1: Face Your Debt - Set some time aside to focus completely on performing a financial assessment. Obtain a copy of your credit report, gather all monthly bills and expenses and calculate the amount of debt owed, and review interest rates on loans and credit cards.
Click the link below to obtain a free copy of your credit report.
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

Step 2: Get Organized - Create a spreadsheet or use Quicken software to record expenses. All expenses should be recorded to include day-to-day expenses. Even small amounts, in order to keep tabs on where every penny of your money is going, and to determine the exact amount needed monthly for household expenses.

Step 3: Negotiate - Creditors are often willing to lower interest rates and/or settle a balance for an amount lower than is owed. This can be done by simply calling the creditor and making a request to receive a settlement, a lower interest rate, or refinance your home. NACA also provides a home save program as well as refinance assistance available to current homeowners. Visit www.naca.com for more information.

Step 4: Develop A Realistic Budget - Design a budget that includes all monthly expenses to include paying yourself first by determing how much to invest toward's savings and investment accounts. Entertainment and leisure expenditures should also be included and decided upon in advance in order to maintain your budget. Decide what your financial goals are and which areas you are willing to cut-back on to reach your goals.

Step 5: Plan A Course Of Action - After reviewing your expenses you may find that there is not enough income available from month to month to cover your expenses, reach your investment/savings goals, or to live the lifestyle desired. If this occurs it is time to consider options such as seeking opportunities for earning additional revenue, researching funding and requirements to gain an advanced degree or certificate, changing careers, or cutting out all unnecessary spending in order to reach financial goals.

Additional Tips For Achieving Financial Success

- Strive to live below your means

- Limit dining out

- Save and utilize coupons
http://www.couponmom.com/
http://www.wow-coupons.com/all-printable-retail-coupons.php
http://www.southernsavers.com/

- Always ask clerks or business owners about
possible specials or customer rewards programs.

- Purchase clothing during off seasons, or during seasonal
sales.

- Create a plan and stick with it!!!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. Many of us have deep wounds and scars and we have spent years perfecting just the right way to keep them covered. We walk around with a smile on our faces yet inside our pain runs deep. We cover those parts of us that we don't want the world to see with our make-up, fancy weaves and hairdos, clothes, careers, and status only to find ourselves feeling very empty at the end of the day.

Our reasons for remaining behind the safety of our masks is understandable. Who wants to face the judgement and scrutiny of the world once they see us for who we really are? How many friends, and acquaintances would turn their backs on us if they knew about the mistakes we've made in the past, and those that we continue to make today? In many cases it is easier to keep our masks on versus having to deal with the opposition that often comes along with "Keeping It Real." Though we are able to hide behind our masks from the world, the one person from whom we cannot hide is God. Sometimes we wear our masks for so long that we even begin to fool ourselves into thinking that things really are as well within our lives as we portray them to be. This week as we continue to clean out the clutter in our lives, I challenge you to remove your mask before God and spend some time analyzing which areas of our lives are in need of improvement, and to begin seeking God for direction and healing. Below are my personal top five favorites feel free to create your own list or select from those provided below.

1. Finances - "The Baller"

Are you spending so much time trying to maintain an image or lifestyle that your finances are spinning out of control? Your designer clothes, purse, and shoes give you the appearance of having it all together, but what people don't know is that the bill collectors are ringing your phone off the hook.

2. Relationships - "The Perfect Couple"

Everyone thinks you're in a perfect relationship but everyday you're battling abuse, infidelity, mistrust, poor communication, or overall dissatifaction.

3. Spirituality - "Mr. Or Ms. Holy Roller"

You are in church every Sunday, Wednesday, and any other time service is held. You faithfully attend bible study and every church convention around the city. Yet your lifestyle fails to align with any of the messages heard, or scriptures taught.

4. Health - "Mr. or Ms. Diet Cola" or "Ms. High Metabolism"

Either you're always on a diet, feel like you will never have to diet or you just don't care. If you are a Mr. or Ms. Diet Cola, you're so overly health conscious that anyone who buys you a drink knows to ask for diet, you're constantly counting calories, yet time and time again you give in to temptation, and never seem to quite reach your fitness goal. Or Maybe you feel that because you have a "high metabolism" you are excluded from having to work out or watch what you eat and continue to fill your body with an unhealthy diet. Then there are those who just don't care. In order for our bodies to function properly it is important that we make a committment to provide healthy nourishment, rest and exercise for our bodies.

5. Negative Attitudes - "Mr. Or Ms. Freedom Of Speech"

It is important that we express our opinions and let our voices be heard, but sometimes it's ok to plead the fifth. Many times what we feel is simply voicing our opinion turns into a vent session that fills the air with negativity. If you find your vent session turning into a slew of negative remarks toward others, a stream of profanity filled declarations, or your voice rising to unusual levels, it may be time to plead the fifth, and seek ways to change the situation using more peaceful methods. The only people who want to be around negative people, are other negative people. Positive change, begins with positive attitudes and positive actions.

The types of masks we wear daily are endless. These are the top five that at different phases of my life I have found myself struggling with, and a couple that I am still fighting to overcome today. This week let's take our masks off before the only one who can heal us, and ask God to give us guidance and direction so that when people look at our lives, we will know that they are seeing us for who we truly are and not just our masks. One thing that each of us has in common is that we each exist in the world with our own set of imperfections. By being willing to take off our masks and share our testimonies, we give others the freedom to do the same.

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. It seems that I was just celebrating my 21st birthday, and now I am officially "thirty-something!" These were my thoughts as I awakened this morning and began to reflect over the years and how much has changed in my life. My life is far different from the way I imagined it would be a decade ago by the time I reached this age, yet in many ways it's far better than I ever imagined!!!

The lessons I've learned, people who have crossed my path, and all that through God's grace I have been able to accomplish makes this day all the more special. Being the perfectionist that I have a tendency to sometimes be, I'm still not all that I desire to be, but I thank God that I haven't accepted a life of stagnation, but instead have chosen to push forward into all that God has purposed for my life. This journey has not been easy, but the good days have outweighed the bad. In the midst of it all my favorite scripture, Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." Still holds true!!!

So in honor of having the victory in knowing that things truly do work our for our good, be encouraged to keep pressing forward, continue seeking God, and living a life of purpose, despite the obstacles, the disappointments, and the set-backs. In the end, the victory will be so much greater than the cost, and the greatest reward will be peace. Peace in knowing that you are living a life of purpose!

Top Life Lessons Learned

1. Jesus Is The Way, The Truth, And The Life! This Journey Would Be Unbearable Without His Presence

2. Love Is The Cure To Many Of The World's Problems

3. Regardless Of What I Do I Will Never Be Able To Please Everyone

4. You Are What You Attract

5. All Things Work Together For The Good Even When I Don't Understand

6. A new year is our chance to reflect on the past 365 days and determine if we were truly good stewards of each day, and every opportunity that had the power to bring us a step closer to living a life of purpose.

This year I encourage every individual to not only reflect, revise, and review the events and decisions that have transpired over the course of the past year, but as we celebrate 2010, prepare to fight!!! Fight by actively taking the necessary steps needed to manifest a life of purpose. In honor of the new year, I am dedicating the next twelve months to self-discovery and personal development. There are some struggles that have been following me for the past decade, and though in many cases I've been able to navigate my way around them, they still remain and have proven to be a hindrance in some areas of my life. I have decided that this year I will win the battle against strongholds, mindsets, habits, and any other threat standing between me and my destiny. I would like to invite you to join me for this journey of self-discovery and development. Each month is being dedicated to a specific focus, and every week I will be posting messages of encouragement, tips and suggestions in areas ranging from relationships and finances, to health and wellness. Today is the first day of a life changing year, Let's win in 2010!!!!

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S. This month's focus will be establishing a foundation of success. In order to effectively prepare to reach our goals, we must first create a plan of action. This plan should serve as our foundation for reaching success. I have found that making a committment to seek God's will as the driving force of my plans, has been the source of my greatest accomplishments. Oftentimes we depend on our own thoughts and devices to determine our direction in life, only to find ourselves lost time and time again. Through diligently seeking God's purpose we are able to experience life with a clarity and focus that gives us the peace needed to make decisions and to address the tribulations of life. Trust me when I say there have been multiple times when I tried doing things my way whether it was within relationships, career choices, and even day-to-day decision making. I'm so grateful that I have discovered that God's way is always best. Below I have listed some additional suggestions for developing a foundation of success.

"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousnes; and all these things shall be added unto you." Matthew 6:33

The Key to Establishing a Foundation of Success is Organization

Maintain a Journal:

Many times our minds are so cluttered that we're unable to focus on daily routines let alone working toward our purpose. A journal is an excellent source for writing down personal goals and gaining clarity through the written word. As ideas and thoughts are written, dreams and visions are brought to life and the thought-process of how to nurture gifts and talents becomes stimulated. Often times through writing, passions are discovered that would have otherwise remained unknown. Make a committment each day to not only write down goals but to also include the steps that will be taken each day to move a step closer to reaching the goal. Free-writing is also a wonderful way of expressing emotions that may be difficult to verbalize. Journal writing helps to organize thoughts, and many have described it as being therapeutic.

Organize Surroundings:

A cluttered home can often lead to a cluttered mind! As we take this journey of self-discovery and personal development it is important that every area of our lives becomes organized. Everything from the rooms within our homes to our offices at work should serve as a representation of a lifestyle of focus and clarity. I've found that the more I maintain consistancy in the small things such as keeping a clear desk, promptly doing the dishes, or maintaining good financial records, the easier it becomes to maintain a disciplined life of organization. Increased organization makes the process of living a life of purpose less complicated and easier to manage.

Dispose of Toxic Relationships:

We are commissioned to love our neighbors but our neighbors do not have to have a front row seat within our lives. Sometimes the number one barrier standing in the way of living a life of purpose is listening to people who seem to serve no other purpose in our lives than to fill our minds with negativity. While it's important that we strive to be examples of love and offer our support to uplift the various people that cross our path, we must determine their role within our lives, and whether they are a distraction, or a source of encouragement as we continue on our journey of purpose. Identifying the place that individuals hold within our lives make it easier to determine with whom to invest our time, hearts, and spirits.

Author and Inspirational Speaker T.S.
